Lexus LC 500H – The revolutionary Hybrid

Written by Media Manager.

The Lexus LC 500 Hybrid, arriving in New Zealand mid-2017, delivers a breakthrough that recasts the entire concept of hybrid performance with a combined 10-speed transmission Multi-Stage Hybrid System.

The flagship performance coupe will provide a glimpse of what is technically possible by presenting a world first Multi-Stage Hybrid System that marries the elements of a traditional full hybrid powertrain; including the normal CVT type transmission, to an additional integrated 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing named Sports Car of the Year

The term 'sports sedan' is considered an oxymoron by some and the four-door 'family cars' are certainly not renowned for winning beauty pageants. Those trophies are usually claimed by sexy two-door coupés or sleek convertibles.

But to some of its European competitor's surprise, the Lexus GS F has come up trumps at the National Business Review's (NBR) annual Car of the Year Awards last week, scooping up the coveted title of Sports Car of the Year.

Lexus is continuing to widen its high performance portfolio with the launch of the V8 powered GS F, the first GS mid-sized sedan to wear the F badging.

It joins the RC F coupe which is powered by the same, 351 kW 5.0-litre V8 engine under the bonnet.

The GS F’s elegant and aggressive styling characterises the personality of Lexus performance orientated F brand. This is exemplified by the bold spindle grille and low slung wide stance, race-inspired functional front air inlets in the front spoiler to cool the brakes and engine oil with outlets behind the front wheel arches, Brembo large front and rear brakes, subtle carbon fibre rear spoiler and the rear diffuser with quad exhaust outlets.

The GS F is based on the GS sports sedan, which is also available as the hybrid GS 300h, GS 450h and the V6 powered GS 350.

The GS F will seat five in a luxuriously appointed and crafted cabin filled with advanced technology features.

The GS F, as with other F branded models, offers a unique driving experience in its segment of the market, and adds further breadth to the Lexus performance brand positioning haloed by the LFA.

“It takes the GS model range to a whole new level of performance,” said Spencer Morris, General Manager of Product for Lexus New Zealand.

“It’s an ideal addition to Lexus’ range of high performance F models – our second in little more than 12 months.”

Lexus launches the world's first Origami inspired car, made from cardboard, and able to be driven.

There’s never been a Lexus quite like it: infact the creation of a one-off, life-sized Lexus IS is an art project in itself - and a celebration of it's current marketing strategy of "creating amazing"

What makes this Lexus IS different, unique and inspirational is that it is crafted in precision-cut cardboard. The cardboard car is inspired, according to Lexus, by an origami test the company requires of workers on its production line—and is, at its heart, an incredibly complicated paper sculpture.

Comprised of some 1700 individually shaped pieces of cardboard, this origami inspired car is a faithful replica of the Lexus IS saloon, and is produced as a celebration of the human craftsmanship skills that go into every car Lexus makes.

With a fully fitted interior, functioning doors, headlights and rolling wheels, the “Origami” Lexus explores the design of the Lexus IS in forensic detail, and that’s not all. Thanks to an electric motor mounted on its steel and aluminium frame, it can even be driven forwards and backwards.
