Bowater Motor Group is very pleased to be able to support community groups like Sport Tasman, which do so much for the wider Nelson / Tasman community. Not only do they get everyone excited about sport and physical activity, and also create excellent events, but they also get things done for local sports organisations when called upon.

One such organisation that recently benefited from this direct help was FC Nelson, and in particular the FC Nelson Ladies team on their trip to Christchurch to compete in the 2nd round of the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup. They borrowed the BMG sponsored Sport Tasman Toyota Hiace van to transport themselves and all of their gear south for the weekend.

The Bowater Motor Group has had a long standing working relationship with Sport Tasman and loaned them a Toyota Hiace van for a year to use in the upcoming South Island Masters Games.  This is going to be a massive event for the region, and a great chance to showcase what we have to offer.
FC Nelson needed a van for their trip to Christchurch, and Sport Tasman was keen to spread the South Island Masters Games message in the Christchurch region, a region where a lot of Masters Games participants will travel from, so it was a perfect match! The actual game itself on the other hand, not such a perfect match.......

It was a fantastic experience for the team as it is the first time a Ladies team from Nelson has ever entered the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup. After a successful last week in Nelson against a Christchurch team, they made the trip to play another team this past weekend in the 2nd Round.

Unfortunately, they were unable to pick up a win as were up against the top team in their Premier League but the ladies put up a great performance despite the 5-1 scoreline.

FC Nelson was formed in 2011 as a result of the merger of the Nelson City, Nelson Metro, Nelson United and Tahuna Juniors football clubs.

Each of these football clubs had their own proud histories and the decision to merge these was not taken lightly, but it was felt that by amalgamating into what has become FC Nelson, they would be able to offer ongoing opportunities to all our members that may not be possible while continuing to operate as smaller independent units.

For the 2011 season they have had over 900 members spread across junior, youth, and mens and womens teams which makes them the largest football club in the Nelson Marlborough region.
