Z Bowater Motors is Good in the Hood again, and giving away $5,000 to the locals

good in the hood

Just like the banner says, it is time for us to be all "Good In The Hood"!

Z Bowater Motors in Motueka are giving away more money this year, $5,000 in fact, to deserving local charities. This is the second time in 12 months that we have been involved in this amazing nationwide Z initiative, and a wonderful opportunity for us all to get stuck in and give back to those that do such a great job in our local community. The best thing is that you don't really have to do anything special, just drop a token in a box on your way out of the Z Bowater Motors Service Station on High Street. Every vote counts, and all 4 charities selected will get a portion of the funding.

Over 4000 applications for the programme were received nationwide in November, and today we are very pleased to be able to publicly announce the following local charities as those successful in this summers local Motueka "Good in the Hood" funding round:

  • Motueka Riding for the Disabled
  • Whenua Iti Outdoors
  • Motueka District Toy Library
  • Victim Support Motueka

These 4 hard working local charities will be up for their share of the funding depending on the results of the voting instore at Z Bowater Motors over the month of March.
How the funding is split up depends entirely on you and your votes.

Voting for your favourite charity is as easy as dropping a token.

130218-z-gh-votingEach and every time you make a purchase at Z Bowater Motueka (excludes singular tobacco sales), for any amount, you will get a token. Just like last year be on the lookout for a box like this positioned by the door. Simply select your chosen charity and drop your token in the slot. Job done!

The number of votes for each charity determines the ratio at which the $4000 funding pot will be distributed. The remaining $1,000 will be used us throughout the year to support other neighbourhood events and initiatives.

Voting is valid during March 2013 only, so make sure during this month you head to Z for all your little bits and pieces, as well as filling up on fuel. The more visits, the more tokens you will get to vote with, and the more money your favourite charity will receive.

Who are these charities, and why did they get picked?

Over the coming weeks we will get to know these charities and share this on our website and facebook, so that you too can get to know them and the work that they do. Keep checking back to this section to learn more as we visit each of the 4 local charities selected.

The criteria that the groups needed to fulfill to apply for ‘Good in the Hood’ included:

  • being active in the local neighbourhood around a specific Z station
  • being focused around helping people who need it and
  • being for a specific project or to fulfill a specific need.

At the end of the day, over 4,000 charities applied to be a part of this nationwide, “We feel that it’s only fair to support the people who support us, and we think that Good in the Hood will make a real difference in neighbourhoods across New Zealand,” says Z Energy CEO, Mike Bennetts.

The Bowater Motor Group are very excited to be able to support local charities through this initiative as it not only enables us to give away some much needed local funding, but it also allowsus to have a conversation with our wider online audience about the good work these organisations do for our community.

The virtual neighbourhood exists online

The clever boffins at Z are also building a virtual neighbourhood on the Z Energy website (click here). People can vote on here for any of the groups that Z have supporting across the country. To vote in the virtual neighbourhood you have to earn tokens in the Token Hunt. And you may even win some goodies at the same time. At the end of March, the ten groups with the most votes in the virtual neighbourhood will get $500 each – on top of their share of the $4,000!

This is great news, and a bonus extra feature for everyone that is killing time on the internet - you could actually be doing some good for your community and perhaps win yourself something in the process!
