The Bowater Motor Group celebrates 80 years in business.

On September the 28th 1945 Raymond Bowater opened the doors on his automotive business and the beginnings of The Bowater Motor Group came about. Four generations later BMG is stilled owned and operated by the Bowater family and filled with a long serving, experienced team committed to your mobility needs.

You cannot buy neither time or experience. The same can also be said for a reputation. It is hard earned and gained through a commitment to getting things right and leading the way. We are very proud of the reputation we are well known for across the region, and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. 

We have a wide range of automotive and mobility products and services, and stores across the region, enabling you to access our businesses at your convenience. With businesses in central Nelson, Richmond and Motueka we make it easy to get in and see us. 

Care for our people is paramount and supporting our community is something we take much pride in. It is in our DNA and dates right back to the establishment of Bowater Motors in 1945 by our founder Ray Bowater, who was extensively involved across the Nelson, Tasman Community; from helping pioneer the aviation industry to being a very active participant on the sports fields as much as in the boardrooms, and obviously also very deeply embedded and committed to the evolution of Motor Sports across our region. A strong, healthy and vibrant community is vital, and the success of the wider community also means the success of our business into the future.

The last 80 years has seen a lot of change, but also the foundation of long standing, intergenerational relationships. We see change in technology, changes to the methods and the way we communicate, share and even access information, and changes to the way we all work, live and travel. We have a past we are proud of, a present to which we are fully committed, and a future of which we are certain.
