Z Bowater Motors helps plant native trees to line Coastal Highway near Mapua

170720 treeplanting

Chris Bowater, CEO of Z Bowater Motors, left, Tasman District Council horticulturist Richard Hilton, Tasman Environment Trust chairwoman Gillian Bishop, Z retailer Nigel Andrews and Helen Bibby of the Mapua District Community Association at Dominion Flats Reserve where the donated trees will be planted.

Thousands of native trees were donated by Trees that Count as part of an initiative with Z service stations around the country.

Those that filled up their car at Z last Thursday contributed to the cause, with 6 cents from every litre of fuel donated to the native tree planting organisation.

Nelson was one of four regions selected as the recipients of 5000 native trees which will be planted at the Dominion Flats Reserve and neighbouring Higgs Reserve, either side of Mapua Drive off the Coastal Highway.

BMG helps the local scouts get settled.

The Bowater Motor Group is very active in the local community, and as such we are constantly offering ways to help those community groups that struggle to make ends meet in the best way we can.

For community groups one of the biggest expenditures is events, and providing ways of weatherproofing or providing shelter for their participants.

We are very fortunate to have a very large marque that we use quite regularily at the events we attend. However we also have a system in place in which we can lend out our large marque to community groups for events. All you have to do is call the friendly team at the reception desk of Bowater Toyota (0800 269 283) and see if it is available to book.

Last week we received a wonderful letter from some very appreciative recipients of the Bowaters Marque - the local Scout group at a camp recently.

Not only did we get this most gracious letter of thanks, but we also received some great photos of the event as well.

Tasman Councillor, and BMG Family member Judene Edgar Among Leaders For Silent Leadership 2013

On Friday 2 August 2013 local Tasman councillor, and wife of the Bowater Motor Group's CFO, Judene Edgar, will be taking part in the inaugural Silent Leadership Challenge; a hearing loss challenge for corporate and community leaders to raise awareness and funds for The National Foundation for the Deaf.

Throughout the day Judene will undertake four challenges – one-to-one meeting, team meeting, social get-together and watching TV at home – while wearing ear protectors to simulate deafness, robbing her of her full ability to communicate.

This is a daily reality for one in six New Zealanders who are deaf or hearing impaired.

By experiencing hearing impairment on Friday 2 August, participants will be at the cutting edge of vital campaigns to change attitudes and improve the quality of life for deaf and hearing impaired New Zealanders.

Bowater Honda heads out to the Stoke Bowling Club

The Stoke Bowling Club is a very high profile local bowling club with a very large space, nicely tucked away in Stoke. It is the hub for the local bowling community, with most large events in the region being held there as it has 2 separate lawn greens, and a large facilities complex.

Bowater Honda has been a keen supporter of the Stoke Bowling Club, with ongoing support for tournaments, players and the club itself over the years.

We went along to the BMG sponsored Bowater Honda Classic Fours Tournament at the club on the weekend of 24-25th November 2012, and caught up with club president Allen Johnson to talk about the tournament and what Bowls means to Stoke.

Established in 1949, the Stoke Bowling Club has seen many changes, especially in the club surrounds themselves as Stoke has grown and the land use change to the urbanised landscape we see today. The Stoke Bowling Club have a big year planned next year, with upgrades to facilities on the cards.
