Ever since our humble beginnings in downtown Nelson in 1945 the Bowater Motor Group has been very focused on community involvement. We believe that you are only ever as successful as the support that you can give back. It is with this philosophy that we continue to be as involved as we can be in the wider Nelson / Tasman community.
This section of the website houses stories, links and content from a collective of organisations and events that we are involved with or support through sponsorship or partnerships.
The menu to the right has got comprehensive articles from those events, organisations and charities that we regularly involved with, click on the menu items to read more, or scroll down this page to keep up with events as they unfold.
If you think you have an event, organisation or group that would benefit from our community interest feel free to contact us.
Bowater Honda gets behind Cawthron's drive to educate our community
Bowater Honda CEO Chris Bowater, Cawthron Institute Community Educator Jo Thompson and Bowater Honda Sales Manager Nick D'Evereux.
Bowater Honda, and the wider Bowater Motor Group in general, are very passionate about supporting our community.
The easiest way we can make this happen from our perspective is to help provide transport solutions to these organisations. A key part of any community education programme is actually getting in amongst the community and delivering educational resource and conversation where the community actually is.
Bowater Honda recently delivered a multi purpose Honda CR-V to Jo Thompson, the Community Educator for the prestgious Cawthron Institute. Bowater's are not only commited to supporting community groups, but also those in the community such as Cawthrons, delivering invaluable and positive interactions with all aspects of the community, and in particular the youth of our district.
Back in February 2011 the Cawthron Institute saw the need to support schools and the wider community in general, at events such as open days, and talks all across the top of the south. They established the Community Educator role to fill that void, and began to connect their research and scientists with the wider community, and looked to support existing science programmes in our region. and especially begin to actively engage with groups such as the local schools.
Cawthron's community education programme was established in 2011 to connect our research and scientists with the wider community, and to support existing science programmes in our region.
Bowater Honda came onboard at that initial early stage, sponsoring the institute with a Honda Civic. Now almost 3.5 years later, the Cawthron Institute are now receiving a remarkably functional and multi purposed Honda CR-V to replace the Honda Civic as this exciting programme expands and is increasingly utilised. They have been doing alot of work in schools, going in and running teacher training workshops, helping school science departments experience state of the art, up to the minute science at an easy to access level.
Cancer Society Nelson picks up their new sponsored vehicle
Cancer Society Nelson Centre Manager Linda Lucre with Bowater Toyota CEO Tony Bowater.
We recently had the pleasure to catch up with Cancer Society Nelson Centre Manager Linda Lucre as she arrived to pick up the freshly signwritten Toyota Avensis station wagon for the local branch.
Bowater Toyota are pleased to be able help this hard working local charity into a more modern vehicle which will not only deliver a greater level of safety to those driving it, but also save the centre money with the reduced fuel costs.
The Cancer Society Nelson does a tremendous amount in the community, supporting both family members and those on the cancer journey. This is a vital and valuable role as this disease seems to touch so many more families these days, and support is something everyone can always do with more of.
It is going to be Jazz As in Old St Johns on August 16th
The Brook Sanctuary are so close to meeting the goals set out right at the start of the project that they are getting into celebration mode. Part of the fundraising cycle for the winter is a jazzy wee music performance at Old St John's on Hardy Street. Part celebration, part fundraiser. A whole lot of fun!
The Bowater Motor Group are always keen to support the Brook Sanctuary whenever and wherever we can, so when this jazz concert idea was discussed the team at Bowater Honda immediately stuck up their hand.
What a great cross over, the brand new bold and colourful Honda Jazz has just been launched - a perfect fit for the Brook Sanctuary Jazz Concert, and so now we have the "It's Jazz As" Concert!
Just like the Honda Jazz, tickets are very cheap. Just $15 for adults and $10 for those children under 16. These tickets can be bought at either the Brook Sanctuary office in Morrison's Square, or at Bowater Honda in Achilles Ave.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page (click here) as well - we may just be able to swing a few giveaways!
Heather has a good time courtesy of BMG Good Sorts
April BMG Good Sorts winner, Heather Walker, has had a very busy last couple of month's since we caught up with her. The Nelson Giants, for whom she is a volunteer, has had a massive season, not only getting to the semi finals, but also having to deal with the disruption of life out of their "normal" home, the Trafalgar Centre.
Heather was singled out at the recent post season celebration and headed up infront of everyone along with 4 of the other volunteers to be presented with a bouquet of flowers to thank her for all of the hard work and dedication to the team, and the wider organisation.
Good on her we say - she is an awesome lady, and so humble with all of the extra efforts she puts in across many different community groups as well as the Nelson Giants.
We were very happy to receive an email, and a photo, from her recently thanking us for the $200 Dinner Voucher. This is the awesomeness of the lady that she is - not only did she have the gratitude to send us a thankyou, but she also had the forethought to take a photo of them out enjoying the voucher so we could share it with everyone. So thoughtful of her, and yet another example of the kind way in which she thinks.
