A series of significant milestones for the team.

2002 bowater toyota team

The Bowater Motor Group acquired the Toyota franchise for the top of the south back in 1990, and as such as welcomed onto the team a large number of the existing Wrightcars Toyota team.

That was 32 years ago, and we are proud to say that we still have a good number of those same individuals still with us and celebrating some significant work anniversaries over this past few months.

We love celebrating success and excellence and there is something very special about a workplace where so many of the team have chosen to literally invest decades into moving BMG forward. We thank them all, and are very proud to take a minute to celebrate these fantastic people.

Hyundai Motor Company today revealed the streamlined and timeless design of the highly anticipated IONIQ 6, the second model in its IONIQ dedicated all-electric-vehicle lineup brand. IONIQ 6, which Hyundai describes as an Electrified Streamliner, is aerodynamically sculpted and makes innovative use of sustainable materials to reflect today’s EV customers’ values.

Inspired by Hyundai’s Prophecy EV Concept, IONIQ 6 is characterised by clean, simple lines and a pure aerodynamic form that Hyundai designers describe as Emotional Efficiency. IONIQ 6’s electrified streamliner typology and mindful cocoon-like interior embody a silhouette for the new era of electric mobility, while the overall design theme of Ethical Uniqueness reflects Hyundai’s customer-centric commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

“IONIQ 6 connects an emotional convergence of functionality with aesthetics,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center. “The distinctive streamlined design is the result of close cooperation between engineers and designers, with obsessive attention to detail and customer-centric values at the core. We have created the IONIQ 6 as a mindful cocoon that offers a personalised place for all."

The team at Bowater Toyota were very excited and proud to have been crowned 2021 Toyota New Zealand Supreme Award winners in a virtual event held online last night.

This penultimate award was ontop of the award they had won moments earlier, the 2021 President’s Trophy for outstanding customer service.

Hilary Barry, Toyota NZ CEO Neeraj Lala, and Toyota NZ General Manager of New Vehicles and Product Planning Steve Prangnell, were on the set of the online awards to deliver the outstanding results to Tony Bowater and the management team that had gathered in the new showroom in Achilles Avenue.

It was the 5th time in the last 8 years that Bowater Toyota have won this Supreme Award, cementing their place as industry leaders amongst the dealer network of one of New Zealand’s most trusted brands.

Electrification and the future of motoring

As the latest round of the Climate Change conference gets underway at COPS26 in Glasgow, it is a very pertinent time to be discussing the future of personal mobility.

This article is as real as it gets from the perspective of a company that has been in the business of providing transportation solutions to the top of the South Island for nearly 80 years.

The simple fact of the matter is that we all need to move about from place to place, sometimes transport heavy things, or move families of either very young people, or very old people, longer distances than they can comfortably walk. The arguement with the last point can be made for a more efficient and better functioning public transport infrastructure, but the realities of our present system make this somewhat unrealistic in the top of the south. Our region is very large, and our relatively small population is spread far and wide, and spread very thinly in some areas.

Personal mobility is at the core of this conversation. As a culture we have become very time sensitive, and most of us feel we have the need or urgency to do things immediately. Car pooling is certainly a positive step toward enabling that a single trip is as efficient as possible but getting into work or school and home again is just one of the many uses we all have for cars. Once you add in the commercial sector into the conversation it begins to get very complicated very fast.

If we want to address the elephant in the room, that being the changing climate, maybe it is time to start looking at our own options when it comes to the choices we are making around personal mobility. This is a BIG conversation, so let's jump into it.
