Drive your dream with Bowater Toyota

Toyota's ultimate toy car

Toyota Global announced last week that it would use the Tokyo Toy Show to showcase an update to the odd-looking Camatte concept car it debuted last year. A car that if it makes it's way into showrooms would be quite a conversation starter, and being an all electric vehicle capable of customisation and complete individualisation would certainly turn heads!

At the event they revealed the ultimate toy car, one that is designed to bring families together and teach youngsters how to drive. Acceleration and braking pedals and seats can be adjusted to enable operation by children, while an adult seated in the rear-right seat assists steering and braking to help develop the child's driving skills.

Toyota says the new Camatte57s is aimed at "bringing parents and children closer together as they work in collaboration on building their ideal car".

The vehicle body exterior consists of 57 detachable small lightweight panels to allow easy and extensive color and design customization.

This video from Toyota shows the concept in a typically quirky way, complete with quite a full on soundtrack!

The cabin has a triangular three-seat layout to emphasise family intimacy and the brake pedals and accelerator can be adjusted so even children can drive the electric-powered vehicle (in non public areas of course!). To ensure they are safe, the passenger in the rear-right seat assists with steering and braking to develop their skills. The open-top roadster styling offers a liberating driving experience while also enhancing visibility to increase ease of customization.

The vehicle aims to convey the joy and dreams of motor vehicles to current and future drivers, by providing an opportunity for parents and children to together experience the fun of driving, car customization and car enthusiasm. Compared to the "Camatte" concept exhibited in 2012, the Camatte57s allows an even greater ease and range of customization possibilities.

This video shows just how easy it is to put together this nifty new idea:

As with most things Toyota, there is a deeper meaning behind the name - in this case the Camatte name is derived from the word care while the s at the end stands for sawaru, which means touch and is thus meant to convey the idea that people should feel more in touch with their family and vehicles.
