Honda gives away another $2500 to local family

Local Upper Moutere couple Colin & Ruth Roberts have struck it lucky, to the tune of a cheque for $2500 from Honda New Zealand.

What did they have to do to win this sizable small fortune? Just take the all new Honda Euro Civic for a test drive. That is all.

Bowater Honda Sales Manager Matt Enright presents the $2500 Cheque to Colin and Ruth Roberts.

The Roberts have been going through the process of upgrading their 2009 Honda Civic Sedan, so thought it best that they come in and give the new Honda Civic Euro a go as well. Aren't they lucky that they did, and they are in the draw to win a brand new Honda Civic Euro as well!

The BMG 86 sets the pace at the Port Nelson Street Races

When it comes to sending a car around the track as a part of the annual Port Nelson Street Races, Nelson Road Racing Association president Nick Marer called upon Bowater Toyota with only one car in mind.
That car, is of course the Toyota 86. The perfect car for the job.

Nick was on the hunt for the Official Pace Car for the annual 2013 Port Nelson Street Races. This street race is an iconic street circuit motorcycle race, held in Nelson since 1992, and featuring multiple classes of racing, culminating in the King of the Port Race - always a hotly contested event.

We jumped at the chance to get the Toyota 86 into it's "natural" environment, an official "closed road" track where it could stretch it's legs unhindered and without breaking any laws!

Toyota 86

The chance to get trackside does not happen that often in Nelson. Normally those wanting to get some track day action have to travel a long way to satisfy that urge, or just resign themselves that it is not a reality, and just the dreams of car crazy young boys.
The Toyota 86 has changed all of that. Finally a car has come onto the market that is not only remarkably priced at just $41,986,  but has actually been designed for those wanting to enjoy a perfectly respectable, everyday car 90% of the time, but also experience the thrills of Track Days if the opportunity arises.
All this being said, the 2013 Port Nelson Street Race gave us the perfect opportunity to show the motor racing fans of Nelson the new face of the performance side of Toyota.

Making a silk purse and going hammer and tongs in time for Christmas

Nick Harrison at workGreat progress is being made with the The Wakefield Caffeine Crew's Relay for Life Project, the BMG Mini restoration.

Nick Harrison (left), the teams panel beater, is very busy with the daunting task of making a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Back in the 1970s there was very little rust protection, hence the inside of all the panels never saw any paint or any form of rust inhibitor. But that doesn't phase Nick, being a very experienced tradesman he is right up there for the task.

It always amazes us what a panel beater can do with a welder, hammer and dolly (and that is the steel one not a two legged one).

Bowater Motor Group through Bowater Toyota have supplied the Wakefield Restoration Team  with a number of new panels.
Recently John Bruce acquired the project another old Mini body from which the team have scavenged a number of salvageable panels that Nick will fit and weld into place, speeding up the process as replacement is often a whole lot quicker than repair.
